| Fitting exercise into your day Exercise need not mean pumping those weights at the gym or puffing and panting that 5 km run. Certain day-to-day activities can help you burn off those extra calories. They include: -Taking the stairs instead of the elevator. -Taking a short walk after lunch or dinner. -Doing housework like gardening, sweeping, floor mopping, etc. -Parking your vehicle at a distance and walking up to the shopping mall. -Making vigorous movement of body & limbs, now and then, while working. -Picking up articles from floor by bending and body movement whenever possible. ![]() -Restricting the use of remote controls & intercoms. ![]() ![]() |

If you're really busy, it can be really hard to fit significant exercise into your day. I couldn't fit any kind of exercise into my daily schedule until I had a life that couldn't function without exercise. For example, in college or now, I can't go anywhere without walking or riding my bike to the places that I want to go.

Those are some really good ideas. I really like taking the stairs instead of the elevator. It makes me feel a lot better about myself. I also had a bad experience the last time I was on an elevator. It stopped before landing on the ground, and then only opened enough so I could barely fit through. It was trying to close on us, so I held the door open so everyone inside could get out safely. It was at the mall and I told security about the problem. It really freaked me out!! At least you can't get stuck on the stairs! lol

You have some great suggestions. I agree that you can get alot of exercise just by doing things around the house. Making extra trips up and down the stairs is also good exercise. I always park the farthest distance from the store I am going to, to get some exercise in. |

I take the stairs whenever I can, but I can't rely on that for exercise alone. My body needs this sense of urgency and a sense of direction. Now if I'm walking to a certain place, and I need to get there by a certain time, then I can really burn some calories.

| It actually makes sense. When we know that we are running towards something and that we have to get there by a certain time, it gets the adrenaline running and it is a great exercise.

I like taking a long casual walk when ever possible, with a friend or alone.. But since i had a fracture in my leg, i have a trouble in walking all along. |
