My sister in law recently had stem cell cord banking done with her new born 6 months ago. There is no harm to you or your baby, as when the baby is born the umbilical cord is taken off anyway and instead of it being disposed of, it is used to extract stem cells from it by the stem cell banking company. Unfortunately I missed out on this opportunity, as it was fairly new when I had my last child and no one was that aware of it in India. But now its become quite popular. Will get some more detailed information about this from my sis in law and let you know in a day |

Monica because you have mentioned Cryobank, I am assuming that you are from India! In India there are two main cord stem cell banking companies, one as you mentioned is Cryobank and the other is Lifecell. My sis in law went through Lifecell for her baby's cord stem cell banking, as my brother and her thought it was better than Cryobank, nothing as in particular just their opinion. The way they decided was by getting a presentation done by both the companies and the company reps come to your house to give the presentation, and then that way you and your husband can decide upon which company to choose. This way you get all the information first hand from the company it self. Another option is asking your gyno which is the best or which company the hospital deals with, where you would have your delivery. |

Hey neetu Thanks for directing me on a right path .. Yes I asked my gynaec for her opinion. She told me its a great step I would be taking. When I asked her for which stem cells banks are the best, she recommended Cryobanks India. I trust my gynaec and so am planning to go ahead with Cryobanks India ... thanks for the great help ... will keep you update with post pregnancy result ![]() thanks once again |

Your welcome Monica, hope the pregnancy goes all well for you, and yes will look forward to the pregnancy updates. I found out that Cryobank is actually an international company, so the below mentioned by myself isn't quite right! Cryobank is also based in America! |

Hello members again thanks for adding wonderful info ... and helping me and others who don't know about this process.. the type of wonderful response from you has encouraged me to share my little info which i have practically gone through few days back I have contacted Cryobanks and almost finalize that to preserve my baby;s cord blood. They are offering various pricing plans with easy EMI options. You can ask for the more details through their website. As far as the collection is concerned, here is some info: After you've delivered your baby (either vaginally or by caesarean section) and the cord has been clamped and cut, your doctor inserts a needle into the umbilical vein on the part of the cord that's still attached to your placenta. As the blood flows out, it's usually collected in a special blood bag called the collection kit. The collection kit must be arranged in advance. Approximately three to five ounces is collected and the entire process takes less than ten minutes. The blood is collected either before or after the placenta is delivered. This process is painless and safe. Once the blood is sealed in the bag, trained personnel from the cord cell bank will collect the blood. It is then shipped to the cord blood bank laboratory within 48 hours, where it's processed, tested and frozen for long-term storage. Hope this will help. Cheers! |
