Its not just in developing countries, but other developed countries too. Its just important that you have the right guidance and know whats good for you and whats bad for you. Seek help from someone elder in your family, ask the doctor. Regarding diet its important that the husband knows about this too, which is why he too should have knowledge of diet during pregnancy.

Some may think that this is repeated but nothing can go wrong when eating proper fruit and veg along with juices and milk.

Diet during pregnancy should be more on the calcium and fiber. This is in addition to the other basic nutritional needs that the pregnancy would bring forth. But for the particular bodily needs in terms of proper nutrition, it is still best to follow doctor's advice.

I was prescribed folic acid and Iron tablets during both of my pregnancies.

There are foods that you should avoid during pregnancy, such as soft cheeses, pates and certain types of fish too.

Even though you may be craving ice cream and chocolate, you do have to try and eat a healthy diet.

Taking the prenatal vitamins will help with the nutrition needed when pregnant. I wouldn't consider dieting when pregnant unless it is under a doctors care.

What foods and drinks should a pregnant woman avoid? I know of these:

1. Anything that contains alcohol
2. Coffee
3. Pop
4. Spicy foods

Anything else?

I did not know about nuts... Would that include walnuts? I thought they were good for nutrition, in moderation of course, and I like adding them into my apple salad.

Avoiding nuts is controversial. There is even some controversy over making sure young children avoid nuts. I'm not buying into tall this nut hysteria hype just yet.

Have healthy food, fruit juices and other energetic foods. At the time of pregnant a mother have to take food for two life, so be conscious in taking food. Try to take iron, calcium and minerals rich food items for a healthy baby.

Same here. My doctor has never told me anything about nuts being harmful, and all the literature I've read suggests that they are a good source of nutrition. I prefer walnuts and peanuts (fresh, not roasted). They taste great, and they are also very filling.
