Please follow your doctor’s advice when it comes to exercising during pregnancy. If you follow a good exercise program then it will give you the strength that you'll need to carry the weight you gain during pregnancy and to handle the pain and stress that one goes through during labor. Prenatal and postnatal exercises also make it very easy to get back into shape after the birth of your baby. Exercise and walk at lot during pregnancy but do not get into exercises that will carry the risk of falling or and too much stretching. Breathing exercises can also help in carrying off the pregnancy easily.

Very true. There are specific exercises for pregnant women. One of them is kegel exercise that aims in strengthening the pelvic muscles. By doing this, a woman would have a lesser chance of having uterine prolapse after delivery :-)

The pregnancy book I am reading gives some helpful advice on exercising during pregnancy, but it also says that if you don't have enough energy for that, you are not at any huge disadvantage. So women who can't exercise that much should not push themselves into it and should not feel guilty.

| I'd be very scared to exercise while being pregnant! My mom did it, and it always used to worry me. She was always keeping in constant contact with her doctor to ask questions about things she could/couldn't do. It's such a learning experience. I learned a lot then too

| I am sure exercise helps - keeping those muscles tones will make delivery easier. Of course, everything needs to be done in moderation, and the doctor has to be consulted in each particular case. But I would think walking is safe for most pregnant women.

Very rightly said members, exercising is great during pregnancy. Kindly find below few tips on same. Me also pregnant and expecting my baby in month of March 2011. I am following below mentioned regime. Walking is great, I moderate my pace and check my heartrate a lot and try to keep it between 120-140bpm. Also make sure to have plenty of water and rest if you start to feel funny or get any discomfort. I do weights as well but I have been doing them for years so my body is very used to it. I modified my workout to get rid of anything that had me straining a lot, and use lighter weights. |
