Default Working while Pregnant

Working ladies can not leave there jobs at the time of pregnancy. But lot of factors decide as on to how long can a lady work till she undergoes labor pain. Any healthy lady having normal foetus and with out complications can work till she is in the final stage of her pregnancy. It also matters what kind of work the lady has to perform. Like standing for more than 4 hours a day to do the job is advisable not to continue after entering 6months of pregnancy. A lady who requires to lift, climb or bend below the waist should discontinue work after 5month, But a lady who has a job which involves sitting rather than any of the above can continue till the last stage of pregnancy unless and until she herself feels uneasy about it under the consultation of her physician. But no matter what anyone says or guide it’s ultimately the decision of the lady and her comfort level to work or not to work at all.

During my first pregnancy I was able to work till the final stage of the pregnancy as i had a desk job, which wasn't stressful at all!

Yes, the whole thing would depend on the physical condition of the pregnant woman. While some may afford working even up to the day that theyd give birth already, others may need to rest and stop working even at the early stage of their pregnancy. There is no really hard and fast rule, it is only on a case to case basis.

Yes you're right bammer. It varies.

Like in my case, during my first two pregnancies, I was in my early 20's then, I would only go on leave a week prior to my scheduled date. But with my recent which was two months ago, I took my leave on the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy because I easily get exhausted. There are times when I would get palpitations and I also had occasional spotting. I guess age is a big factor...I'm now in my late 30's.

I worked up until the end of the 7th month on my 1st child I had to take health and safety leave because my job involved shift work. My 2nd child I worked right till the end, there was no complications at all to put the pregnancy at risk.

I agree that it depends. Of course if you don't have to work that would be even better!

I worked through till the end of my pregnancy, as I also had a desk job too. But its also important to see how stressful the job is, especially when coming to the last stage of pregnancy as you dont want anything to go wrong.
Although desk jobs are easy and allow you to work till the later stages of pregnancy, some desk jobs can be hectic, so a good decision to be taken on when to take pregnancy leave.

i am currently pregnant, and on my 33rd week of pregnancy. i am still working and i don't have any complications at all.
i guess these things are important for a pregnant woman who's working should remember:
1. to get enough rest and sleep
2. to eat a healthy and balanced diet
3. to make sure to take vitamins and milk as recommended by attending OB-gyne
4. not to overwork or stress oneself out

so far, am expecting a normal delivery.

I think, they just have to give an extra care of them selves during pregnancy. Like eating a proper diet, proper hygiene, exercise and etc. Do you think regular check up is important, if you already diong extra care of yourself?

A lot of sleep is important during pregnancy. And yes, regular checkups are advisable. Just to make sure that everything's going the way it should.

A pregnant women can work till the day of labor it helps in free foetal movements, digestion & helps to have normal delivery unless adised by a gynaecologist to take rest, for some, they have a weak uterus to bear a child, it is must for them that they should take bed rest with limited excercises, a pregnant women is never advised to involve in doing heavy work like longstanding, lifting weight, etc. How ever, it is best suggested that a pregnant women should take maximum rest and minimum work to have a safe delivery, and must have regular checkup till the date of delivery, ofcourse, after delivery too.

thank you. i think it depends on the woman's health and her capacity to be able to work. also, the type and hours of work may also affect the pregnancy, so there are really a lot of factors to consider. i think what would really help is to consult the physician or ob-gyne so that he/she can provide you with the necessary instructions on how to keep healthy throughout the pregnancy while working.
