Default How safe is Waterbirthing?

When I was pregnant six years ago, I was quite excited about natural birthing methods, especially water-birthing. Unfortunately my gynecologist was against the notion. According to her reasoning there were very great chances of the baby dying of drowning. It's been years now and I wonder if the notion has changed?

Water Birthing is known to reduce the stress and pain of birthing for the mothers. Many studies have shown and giving birth, sitting in a warm water tub eases the pain. Warm water is also known to ease the perineum and significantly reduces the chances of tearing.

Water birthing is also believed to make it much less traumatic for babies. Birth in a tub filled with warm water eases the transition for babies as it resembles their familiar surrounding - the womb filled with Amniotic Fluid - warm, liquid.

These are just some of the plus points of water birthing. Google a bit and you will be amazed how beneficial it is.

Water birthing seems to have gained recognition in India. I have read a few articles online as well as in newspapers where women have shared their experiences of water-birthing. The option is definitely available in metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore but mostly in high-end hospitals.
