Default How to keep a diabetic from eating too much food?

My brother is really hard headed. We cannot keep him from eating to much although he had been diagnosed as diabetic recently. He likes to eat chocolate cake everyday and we can't stop him. What could be the best solution to this?

Try replacing the cake instead of something else, which is as good but with less sugar, try mixed fruits, or maybe a cake with very little sugar and isn't a chocolate cake. When he feels like eating chocolate cake give him something to eat which is savory instead of sweet.

I hope he'd like mixed fruits. He is quite picky when it comes to food, especially desserts. Is there a sugar for a diabetic person? His wife is really worried about his health but it seems he doesn't care at all. We cannot follow the suggested diet because he wanted to eat more than what is served. I would appreciate suggestions and advices from you guys.

Being more conscious to your health will help us to stay away from any illness. What do you think? We have also a high sugar history in our blood. An now, I seldom eat sweets foods, and drinking plenty of water is necessary.

Sugar is not good for a diabetic person. My uncle in law is a diabetic so he don't eat sweets. I noticed that he eats few but 5 times a day he said that he shouldn't get hungry.

A Diabetic person should have six meals a day and which doesnot contain much sugar in it, if it is not done in that way, patient may go to hypoglycemia which tends the diabetic to eat more sugary items. The other is diabetis will not be acquired by having more sweet items but depends
on the functioning of the pancreatic gland which helps in metabolism of carbohydrates, and if this gland malfunctions, obviously a person may have diabetis.

He can use sugar substitutes like Splenda, equal or sweetnlow.

My sister-in-law is a diabetic and everyone in the family made an effort to learn about sugar substitutes and what to give her to eat when she visits. We have all learnt to make desserts using sugar substitutes. Unfortunately she always eats the things she shouldn't if there are any around.

I have come to the conclusion that you can't make an adult do the correct thing. You can only try and help and the rest is up to them.

Default How to Keep a diebetic....

It has been my experience with my father who is diabetic that if you get the foods that wont cause a reaction with the body like for instance Salads and heathy things like veggies and nuts to munch on through out the day it is not so hard for them to stay on an even level. Granted there are times when he has done really well so we let him have 1 day every two weeks where he can have one "Treat" of his choice .

At first, let him eat what he wants but make sure he will drink a lot of water because he have to. Then little by little lessen the stocks of those foods in your refrigerator because the more he sees it the more it is tempting for him to eat those he shouldn't eat. Always make him drink water, water therapy is the best!

Default Diabeets Educator

I am a diabetes educator, you can see my web page at d-life
Pointe Diabetes Center , Home

he has to be enrolled in a diabetes self management course. All over the world there are courses on proper diet. switching from one food to another is not the answer, since fruits are a carbohydrate, chocolate is a carbohydrate, bread and grains are all carbohydrate. All carbohydrates metabolize the same.
So since he was diagnosed is he on an insulin regimen? or on orals if he was diagnosed with MODY.
What you can do is get information that makes you part of his diabetes team.
Contact the American Diabetes Association and get a wizdom kit for him. They are free for those in the US and all other countries have their own versions.

The only other alternative I can think of to stop a diabetic person from eating too much is to store the food in a place where he cannot have access to it. Lock the ref if you must, or do not store tempting food in the house.
