I'm going to try to explain this the best I can lol.. Well you need to make sure to eat some carbs, some fruits, veggies.

Here's a pic, because there's also milk/yogurt group, but I dunno what to call that one:

The food you eat must represent all given category (eg. carbs, fats, protein) with minimum required amount.
Although the actual amount require often varies individually due variations like weight, height, metabolism (BMR), allergies & also external dependent factors like place you live, no. of working hours, sleep time, etc.

Your body will require proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, fats, fiber and minerals in order to remain healthy and function properly. However, a good balanced between all these components is very necessary in order to keep your body healthy and running.

The amount of food required by your body will mainly depend on your age, gender, body size and the activity levels. However, you can have balance among the various food categories including fruits and vegetables, dairy products, meats, and grain products. In order, to have a healthy diet plan you should take adequate amounts of the required nutrition's that are necessary for the running of your body.

Although it is widely believed that meat is an important part of a person's diet, but it is not so, you can take the same amount of proteins from the alternates including beans, soy products and the vegetables. This will allow you to lessen the fat content in your diet and avoid increasing your cholesterol level.

In order to have a healthy diet, you must take the nutrition's in adequate quantities. For example, if you do not have enough protein in your body, then your body will not grow properly. Also, if there is a lack of proteins in your body, then it will not be able to heal itself properly. On the other hand, if your diet is lacking the energy rich foods, then you will body will be exhausted easily and you will feel tired easily.

Meat is not just about protein, it also has alot of vitamin D and liver has vast amounts of vitamin A. Non meat eaters should really take an Iron supplement too.

A balanced diet is simply eating sensibly. Everyone knows that too many bad fat i.e cakes, soda etc is bad for you. You need to get a good proportion of carbs, proteins and essential fats and eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day. It's actually not that difficult to do.

You mean to say:

Plenty of bread, rice potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods
Plenty of fruit and vegetables
Some milk, cheese and yoghurt

Some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein, and

Just a small amount of foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar

right?

When people wish to have a healthy lifestyle they switch to a balanced diet, but this is not the right solution to their queries. There is a big difference between a balanced diet and a healthy diet, and i was able to learn about this difference only when i visited Fresh Start for a 5 day program. There 5 day detoxification program and the health and wellness sessions and discussions changed my mindset. A healthy lifestyle which includes raw food, juice and green vegetables will only help you in maintaining a balanced and healthy diet and lifestyle.
Best of luck
