Many of you working women will know that life can be stressful, especially when we have to come home and do the housework too, take care of the kids and for some its also taking care of the whole family which also includes in laws, and in this process we tend to neglect our health and especially our diet. It would be good to hear on how you ladies manage your diet and make sure you get enough and nutritious and healthy food in your busy lives. One of my key tips for healthy diet is taking snacks along with me when i go to work. Snacks can include any fruits of your choice, either as whole or mixed fruit cut up in a snack box. Take a few dried nuts, low sugar biscuits, low fat crisps or salted biscuits you get in packets. Salad with toppings of your choice. And i always make it a habit to take my lunch with me, just in case i am unable to go out for lunch, least i know i will have something to eat. Lunch can consist of anything from sandwiches, pasta, salad, jacket potato (cooked from home) with the topping of your choice, or if sometimes you like the typical Indian food you can have veg pulao, plain rice with some veg sabzi and so on. I will post some of my recipes in the recipes section, although they are quite simple and easy to make, it just gives an idea to others and allows them to know of the different ways or varieties to make things. Good post Alka, its made me think that i should do something to have my food on time and take care of my eating. I don't really do anything like you do, such as taking snacks or anything like that, at times i have gone through the day without my lunch and only had my breakfast at 8 and then dinner at 7 in the evening. I know its bad, but like you said the busy life and family keeps me on my toes. I will definatly take your suggestions and take with me some fruits to work. Looking forward to your recipes, especially the sandwich recipes, as im not so creative with sandwiches and just know the basic cheese and cucumber. |

Low fat and healthy snacks are the best advice for beating the working munchies. Many offices bring in treats and they are always high fat (but tasty). To fight the urge to eat the wrong thing, have snacks in your desk drawer. Also, have a stock of sugar free gum to pop in your mouth when you aren't hungry but are being tempted.

Looking forward to your recipes Alka Having a full fledge breakfast will do the trick too, as it will keep you filled up till lunch and not give the urge to have fatty snacks at work. No matter how busy you are, its a must to have your lunch, after all your entitled to it! |

The post here about snacks is very much appreciated this way. Thanks. That gave me the idea on what to take during times when I feel i need to eat something. But a smile volunteered my lips about including attending to in-laws as part of the stress of the lives of working women! |

I work from home and think it is really hard to keep my snacking under control. Every week I buy fresh fruits and veggie to snack on during the day. I also buy the low fat popcorn. I can snack on this and it fills me up very quickly. I believe that it is important to eat breakfast, so I usually will have 1 egg/ 1 egg white scrambled and cooked with pam so I cut out the butter. Lunch is hardest for me. This is when I always want something bad for me. I try to stick to a Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice meal. Also I write down everything I eat. This helps me keep track of my intake. |

As someone with a hectic schedule, I believe that one of the best things that you can do is plan your meals out in advance - that way you are always prepared and are less likely to snack on unhealthy food because you are in a rush and need to get something quickly.

I would try to cook the veg sabzi, it sounds healthy and delicious. Since I am always in a hurry every morning, I sometimes ate a little. There are times that, when I got home I ate too much. Is the lunch menu/recipe good for dinner as well?

Well, my mom usually cooked healthy foods for her diet and also for us. But we could always observed her drink milk and ate veggies. How about you, how do you make your diet?

I think I'm the only one doing the unhealthy way of dieting. Since I can't wake up early in the morning I always skip meals especially breakfast.

If you wish to lose weight, you probably would need to include some exercise and some diet changes in your life.A few changes in your diet can help. For instance, try including more salad and fruits in your diet. Every time during the day when you feel hungry between the meals- don't go for chips or biscuits but try and have salad, something like a finely chopped onion, with a finely chopped tomato and cucumber with salt and lemon would be tasty and healthy and filling, all at the same time. Make sure you include a lot of juices. For instance my personal favourites are SIL juices- especially mango and mixed fruit juices. Juices are easy to digest and plus they will keep you from going weak and feeling tired, when you are on the diet. If you haven't exercised in past. starting with a 1 hour brisk walk or a 45 minute jogging would be a place to begin from. If you purposefully avoid ghee and all to stay slim, don't do it for a while, some fats are necessary for the proper functioning of your body. You can also try Yoga, but you need to consult an expert atleast for a month, after you learn the basic exercises you can probably do that at home, all by yourself. Good luck and all the best. |
