Hunger arises when there is a physiological need for food, while craving is a false alarm in response to signals from the tongue and palate. Hunger is satisfied by the plainest and simplest of foods, while morbid craving demands something special - sweets, ice-creams, fried and spicy foods. |

My cravings are usually savory. I crave cheeses and pastry over sweets and chocolate, but it is all in the mind (that's what I tell myself).

Craving is also a matter of the person's mood, and it can change, too. When I crave food, sometimes I crave something salty and lightly salted while other times, I crave something very sweet. It isn't always the same.

I crave things so randomly. I do notice that I eat more when I'm depressed or bored though, so cravings can have a lot to do with all sorts of things. I think as long as we can distinguish the difference between when we're truly hungry and when we're simply craving, then we'll be fine

Another thing cravings are associated with is vitamin and mineral deficiency. It's like your body is telling you, "Okay, I have not gotten what I need from what you have eaten, give me something else!" So when you switch to a more nutritious diet, or start taking a good supplement, food cravings might go away.
