Default Difference in Diet and Nutrition

I always thought that diet and nutrition was the same thing, but I have heard from many that it is different.
What i wanted to know was how are they different, whats the difference in diet and nutrition?

Many people will go on a diet and this means that they eat less~ not necessarily better nutritionally, but just less food.

When you start to eat nurtitionally the weight loss usually will drop off naturally. Eat healthy and watch your nutrition and you will be fine.

Well to me I think that diet means what your food consists of and what you eat and nutrition is what is included in the food such as the nutrients like vitamins and so on.

Diet is the total amount of food consumed by a person or other organism, where as, Nutrition is the study of food and how our bodies use food as fuel for growth and daily activities. The macronutrients, or "big" nutrients include proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. The micronutrients, or "little" nutrients are the vitamins and minerals that we need to be healthy. .

For me, diet is the amount of foods you take, while nutrition is more on the contains of your food you ate. Are you conscious with the amount of nutrition in your diet?

Diet usually involves a person not eating a certain food for a certain period of time while nutrition is emphasising the right foods to eat. That's usually been my impression of those two words.
