Default Scents in a hot Country

I have always been told not to wear perfumes or strong scents in hot countries, because the likes of mosquitoes are drawn to the scent, is this true ? I am due to go away soon and I love wearing my perfume at night when going out, I sort of feel bare without it. maybe there is something else I can use in place of it that won't attract the mossies ?

Ive never heard that before and in fact I don't think its true either. I'm currently living in India and its pretty hot here, even I wear perfume but I don't find that it attracts mosquitoes at all. So you can rest assure and wear your favorite fragrance when your on holiday!

Where you off to?

SO glad to hear then that they are not attracted to the scent, I'll be loading up on it now lol just sometimes people say things and I believe them.

Did you know that the word 'gullible' does not appear in the dictionary.

Actually, you do need to avoid perfumes and strong scents if you don't want mosquito bites. I included two links for your information below - first one confirms that these pests are attracted to fragrances (from Mount-Sinai Hospital's microbiology department) and the second one gives you more information as to the reasons why and what you can use to avoid them.

I am sure not wearing your favorite fragrance is worthwhile for a few days if it means you won't be eaten alive, would you disagree?
Enjoy your trip

"Avoid wearing perfume, as this attracts mosquitoes " from that website.

interesting. They don't give much details though. What was the
research on this and are there studies about this?

Although your post is justified with the links given, but I have been to hot countries where you find lots of mosquitos and whenever I visit I always wear my perfume, and anytime i didn't there was no difference to when I wore perfume to when i didn't. I generally go on a family holiday to India where you are always bound to find lots of mosquitos..

I live in the Philippines where it is also hot and humid.
With or without perfume, the mosquitoes come biting when I am out in the garden.
So with or without your perfume, the mosquitoes will come to bite you if they are around.

I agree with selene, mossies will bite with or withour perfume - they are indiscriminate when it comes to getting thier food!!!!

Is it so? I am using perfume for long years. I didn't heard about that mosquitoes will attract or not with scent. This is a new discussion i think. Anybody know this clearly?

I have always been told that mosquitoes and bugs are actually attracted to the smell of your breath but I dont have any links to back that up. Has anyone else heard this?

Oh come on there is nothing like that of wearing scents in hot countries and it attracting mosquito's, and not even more the smell of the breath.

That is so true so I don't think mosquito bites has nothing to do with perfumes because even the anti mosquito lotion is scented. Well if perfumes could attract them then who else could use it. o.o
