Default Fragrances smell Different

Not many people know but all fragrances smell different on different people, if two different people wear the same fragrance, it will smell differently.

The reason for this is simple, that everyone's skin is different, and everyone has their own natural skin smell (pleasant smell)!

Thats 100% true, and its why some people don't like certain perfumes on themselves and when they smell it on someone else it smells much better!

Generally when you go into a fragrance store they now spray the fragrance on a piece of paper, where it will always smell nice. But the key to purchasing a fragrance which you like and best suits you is to try the fragrance on your self! This way you will know what the correct smell is, and whether it suits you or not!

i think another important factor in choosing a fragrance is the personality of the buyer, people with dominating and strong personality usually like to apply strong fragrances and people with soft attitude use light smelling perfumes.

I slightly disagree on that Jessika, as i know many people who have a soft nature and those who have a dominating nature, but they choose and wear different fragrances, from floral to the really strong ones.

Regarding fragrances smelling different on different people, this is something I heard about only two years ago. I used to smell a fragrance which someone was wearing and used to like it, and when I went out to try out that same fragrance it didn't smell good. The reason for this was as mentioned in this thread that everyones skin is different and therefore different fragrances smell differently on everyone.

Yes, this is very true, that's why when you shop for perfume you should try some on your hand / wrist, not just sniff the bottle or paper.

Another absolutely useless thing, in my opinion, is those "scratch spots" on boxes with perfume that you can scratch to smell the fragrance. The scent is usually so very different from actual scent.

I have noticed that too! Although, there is some similarity in the fragrance, the intensity would vary. I believe it depends now on the physical makeup of the individual. While to some it may smell just good, to others it may smell wonderful!

I have read that it depends on the pigmentation, also I have been told that the best way to know whether a fragrance suits you is when you actually can't smell it on you upon application. I have no idea if this is true, has anyone else heard of this before?

Nice odor is not naturally possible but not so nice ones are possible, for example if you eat a lot of garlic you might smell of garlic.

not a whole lot different, just subtle differences due to
individual skin chemistry. the longevity of fragrances
also varies from person to person.

For me, every fragrance are unique when we apply it to our body. Do you agree? Well, this is true because the perfume that we have is being mixed with unique natural scent of our body. Am I right?

I believe that as you age and your body goes through chemical changes, so does the effect of a certain fragrance on you. My husband once bought me a bottle of perfume. I loved the bottle but the fragrance I found to be too strong for me. A few years later I dabbed the perfume on myself and I loved how it smelled on me. I don't believe the fragrance changed. What changed is how it reacted with my body.

You are right harpreet, the fragrance smell will differ from person to person because every persons body will have natural smell. When the perfume smell mix with that natural body smell it gives a different smell.

our smell depends on what our nationality they say; (excuse me)Filipinos smells like a fish, the Western smells like meat, Arabs smells like a garlic and Italians smells like pastas. do you believe that? so our body odor plus the perfume we applied varies... (sorry just an opinion, no hurt feelings here...)

No, I'm not hurt by your opinion at all, butit is an interesting conclusion. I'm also a little bit disturbed to find that I could possibly smell like meat. Urgh!

Could you let me know why the scent is different during or post menstruation please? This is very intriguing.

First of all if you are menstruating, scents will become sharper due to the rise in hormone level. If menopausal, the scents become weakened due to the drop in hormones. The effect though on each is opposite once again, when menstruating, a scent may be perceived as nauseating to yourself, but weakened to those around you. If menopausal, the scent will be weakened to you, and overwhelming to those around you!
