I have recently discovered a few places with extremely cheap books. The first one is the local Habitat for Humanity Re-store. It's where they sell stuff that has been donated to habitat for humanity. The one here locally sells paperback books for $0.49 and hardbacks for $0.99. Also, we have two local Goodwill bookstores that are basically the same thing. Their softcovers are 2.99 and hardcovers are 3.99. Last time I went, I bought one for 2.99 and when I got home I realized it was autographed by the author! It's much cheaper than paying retail and if you have a local store, there's no shipping to pay. |

Wow, I had no idea. I didn't think that Habitat for Humanity sold books. I had also never considered Goodwill as a place to pick up books, but I will make a stop there. I've always gone to library book sales to find books. You don't always find anything, but sometimes you find a real treasure.

I have never thought of Goodwill as a source of books, either! It makes sense - people donate all kinds of things there, books included. Sometimes libraries sell their old or rarely checked out books, too, for good prices. Some of them can be pretty worn out, but others look like new. |

I do like when a library will sell a book that has been withdrawn. The only problem with that is that the book may be in a very terrible condition, but at least the price will be very cheap.

That's really neat. Another great way I've gotten some really cheap books are at garage sales. I mean, you don't know what you'll find, but it's a lot of fun to look around

The only downside to buying books this way is that there's absolutely no guarantee of the book's condition. I've bought books that had water damage and sometimes had a few pages falling out because I really wanted to read the book.

| Yes, though you can alway flip through the book before you buy. I don't think water damage would bother me too much as long as the pages weren't smeared and there wasn't any mold growing. Pages falling out would definitely be a problem with me, though!

The only time that the condition of a book doesn't bother me is if it's something that I've been looking for for a long time. That means that I'm absolutely desperate to get a hold of the book. There have been several occasions.
