Default Online bookstores that buy used books

Hi everyone, do you know of any online bookstores that purchase used books? I have a ton of books that I have read and no longer need and I would love to sell them now. There was one website that I knew of that used to buy the used books but I can no longer remember the name of it - and the search results haven't returned any reputable places.

I'm not sure that there would be a lot of places that would do that because of the shipping costs versus the amount of money that you get for the books. I think the best chance that you have is to just sell your books online through eBay or Amazon.com. Is there a Half Price Books in your area?

I have heard of one such site, it is called Cash4Books.net, but I have not tried it myself, so I can't tell how well it works. Supposedly, you can enter the book's ISBN online and see how much they offer you for the particular book.

Thank you very much Lissy. I will give it a try and if this doesn't work, I will put an ad in the Craigslist to give them away.

You can try any website that accepts college textbooks. You can see if they will accept your books, too, by entering your books' ISBN. You never know.

What a great idea! I have TONS of books that my grandmother kept from me growing up. I am thinking about maybe having a yard sale later in this year and selling my books for like 1-2 bucks a piece I could make a couple hundred bucks

I've just been to the cash4books.net website. It looks a little plain to me compared to many of the other used book sites out there. Is it legitimate? Has anyone here tried it before?

If you look at the bottom of the site, you'll see it's affiliated with the BBB, so yes, that should be fine. I'm glad you mentioned this, because I have TONS of books to sell. I may have just found the right place to do it. THanks!!

I have sold some of my books (mostly textbooks) on half.com. Depending on the value of the books, you can get a pretty good return on some stuff. However, if the book was only 9.99 to begin with and there's like 200 copies already for sale, you probably aren't going to make much money off of it.

That's the thing about selling used books anywhere. The value tends to go down if it's a book that has a new edition released pretty regularly. Then there's the fact if it's a hardback or a paperback, and take into consideration the original price. Sometimes the low prices just aren't worth it.

I tried selling some of my books, but that site I tried out isn't accepting any of the books I have. It must be because they're so old. They want books mainly that are from 2007 or later.

I've always preferred to sell my books in person rather than mailing off my books and waiting later for a check in the mail. On the other hand, the online places can be surprisingly efficient and timely. And when dealing with online buy back places, you don't have to feel like the buy back price for your book isn't just some arbitrary figure the person who looked over your books just came up with.
