Default Slow Reader

I love books, but unfortunately, I don't think that I read at a fast enough rate for me to read all of the books that I want to read. Is there anything that I can do to increase my reading speed?

Take heart. I don't think anyone who loves books will ever be able to read fast enough to read all of the books that he/she wants to read. Sometimes reading fast is not all that important. It's good to be able to savor the books you're reading and reading fast is sometimes a hindrance to that.

Having said that, there are computer programs like Speed Reader or Rapid Reader which are designed to help readers improve reading speeds. And of course, there's nothing like practice. Just keep reading and you'll get faster at it.

How many days would it take you to finish a book? In my opinion, you don't have to be a fast reader. The most important thing to bear in mind is that you understand what you are reading. If you really want to improve then, read as much as possible. It takes time but you have to be patient.

I find that reading out loud makes you a better reader. This way you now you're understanding and actually reading every word. I think the more you read, the better you'll be. There may be CDs or something that can help too.. I'm not sure.

I agree with sofree. It is not how many books you are reading, but how much benefit (be it new knowledge, information, inspiration etc) you can get from a book. Yet, you can still try to read faster by: scanning instead reading every words, reading using your eyes, not your mouth.

I don't think reading is about the speed you read at. It should be enjoyed. Some books will read slower than others. A typical Mills and Boon book I can read in two or three hours but a book like Papilion took me weeks because I only read a few pages a day.

Well, the thing is that I consider myself a very avid reader. I'm always reading something. I feel like people who don't read as much as I do read so much faster than me. Could this have something to do with the fact that I learned how to read at an early age?
