The Age of Innocence is a popular novel written by Edith Wharton. The novel won the 1921 Pulitzer Prize. Its story is set in the upper class New York City in the decade of the 1870s. In 1920, The Age of Innocence was published two times, the first time in four parts, July – October, in the Pictorial Review magazine, and the second time as a book in London and New York by D. Appleton and Company. The book was received very warmly. In fact the Times Book Review termed it as "A brilliant panorama of New York's 45 years ago.” The novel in still in much demand and can easily be found at public libraries and as a best seller in the bookstores. The Age of Innocence is based around a society couple's impending marriage and the introduction of a scandalous woman who threaten their happiness by their mere presence. The Age of Innocence mainly questions the assumptions and mores of the society of New York at the turn of the century. In fact, Wharton said that the novel is a form of apology for the earlier novel "The House of Mirth" which was much more brutal and critical. The author has paid much attention the customs and charms of this novel’s caste. The novel has been praised for its accurate portrayal of the way of life of the nineteenth-century East Coast American upper class and the social tragedy it went through. The book earned Wharton a Pulitzer. It was the first ever Pulitzer award given to a woman. At the time of publication Edith Wharton was fifty-eight years-old at publication. She lived in the world described in her novel and she witnessed a dramatic change in it at the end of World War I. This book is really a must read |

It looks like a very interesting book. Does it have series? I hope I could watch this one. I mean, for me, I would choose to watch than read. |
