Default Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is world famous novel, often cited as a classic by many critics. The book was first published on the 28th January of the year, 1813. It has been written by Jane Austen and was her second published novel.

The book’s original manuscript was written between the period of 1796 and 1797 in Steventon, Hampshire by Austen while living in the rectory. It was titled by Jane Austen as First Impressions, but was never published under that title. It was revised further and then was published as Pride and Prejudice.

According to the many critics the novel's title is a starting point for analyzing the major themes of Pride and Prejudice. However, some of the critics have said that the title may have been chosen due to pure commercial reasons. Maybe after the success of Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, the publishers must have thought about using another title with antithesis and alliteration

A major theme that guides much of this book written by Jane Austen is the importance of environment and upbringing on the development of a young person’s character and morality. According to the book the social standing and wealth are not exactly advantages. In Pride and Prejudice, the failure of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet in bringing up Lydia has been held responsible in the latter’s lack of moral judgment. However since Darcy, on the other hand, was taught to be principled and scrupulously honorable at the same time overbearing and proud. Kitty was saved from Lydia's bad influence and spent more time with her older sisters after they got married helped her a lot to behave a s a better person in society.

A romantic drama, this novel is worth reading after all these years. There are hardcopies as well as paperbacks available of this wonderful book from Jane Austen.

I have not read this book but i have watches both the Indian and English virsion of it. In the Indian one, Aishwarys looks ravishing and the hero, I don't remember his name was also looking cute. Over all it was a nice watch.

I love Jane Austen, and Pride & Prejudice is one of her best works, if not the best. Such a beautiful, well-crafted story. You know what I like the most about her writing and stories? Decency. They make you want to be better.

I love Jane Austen. It's the conversations the characters have that are the best part; they are so witty. Jane Austen was a great observer of human nature.

Jessika, the Indian version was called Bride and Predjudice. And I agree, Aishwarys was awesome in it. Actually this Indian version is my favorite movie version of the story. I liked it even better than the most recent British version with Keria Knightly.

And Chica, I agree with you completely, Jane Austen was a wonderful writer, I have read all of her books and did a few papers in school about her writing style.

Does it the same with the movie pride and prejudice? If I'm not mistaken, I'm done watching this story. Which do you prefer, to watch or read a story?

Well, you're right, jessie. My aunt would still prefer to read after watching the movie. But for me, I prefer watching the story than reading because you could see pictures in a movie no need for you to visualize, secondly, it is a time saving too. Now, what's your reason why you love watching or reading?
