My husband and I are trying to conceive and one of our favorite pastimes is thinking of names for our baby to be. The problem is that if we have a boy, he insists that it be named for his father, however I HATE his father's name. I suppose I'll give in and allow this, but I don't know if I'll ever like it! |

Did you tell your husband that you don't want his father's name for your son? Just be open to him and try to agree on names. Maybe try combining the name of your father and his father and you'll get a unique name. good luck

Zara be upfront to your husband, and tell him you dont want to name your child after his father! Instead you can think of a name which is similar but different!

It is VERY important to him that a boy be named for his father. It's pretty much expected and it's a tradition in his culture. It's more than just a name. Oh well, maybe we'll get lucky and have only girls... that would solve the problem!

I am in almost exactly the same situation. If we ever have a son, my husband would want him to have a middle name that runs in the family, and it is his father's first name as well. Well, I can't stand his father, and because of that I dislike the name (BTW, the name itself is fine, and I used to like it - until I got to know my father-in-law). I have stated that I dislike the name, but I will probably have to give in.

Then I suppose I should count myself lucky Lissy. I adore my in-laws! They are the kindest people I have ever known which explains how they produced such a wonderful son. I guess my big problem is that it is a strongly Islamic name that may not be well received in small town USA. If we decide to move to Lebanon then the name is perfectly fine.
