I admit, I'm going to wear a black dress to holiday parties this year. I'd love to wear red, sleek, sexy. But I find myself basically tied to the black dress because it's safe and not one that will make me feel nervous or worried that I look inapropriate. So why do some of us always navigate toward a black dress when planning for the holidays?

I think you basically answered your own question . Black is a very safe color, and it fits any occasion. Wearing something bright may make us stand out, and that's not really what we're looking for. You bring up a really good point though. I mean, red is just as nice, but why when I think red, do I think sexy? Then, there would be the worry.. is this dress OVERLY sexy? I know exactly what you mean.
