Default Pet rabbit

Would you allow a 14 year old child to have a pet rabbit? My niece would like to have a pet rabbit however, I think she is too young. Do you think it would be fine?

I won't have experience with rabbit. But anyway allowing babies to play with pet animals is always risky. Because infections will easily spread through pet animals.

I think she would be responsible enough to take care of a rabbit at age 14. My daughters are 8 and 9 and they take very good care our kitties. Of course, it might be different for every person, but she is a teenager and I think that would be a great way for her to learn to care about animals.

I perfectly agree with your idea, butterflyes. Well, my niece owns a rabbit at the age of 12, so I guess she could already have it. Do you think she has a passion of caring pets?

That would be cute. She would absolutely like it. Are rabbits really harmless? I mean, if they don't bite, it would be fine if she would have it.

14 is definitely old enough, as long as she's responsible enough. Just remember that rabbits need a lot of attention - they need regular, supervised time out of their cage and plenty of toys to keep them from getting bored. They can bite, too, but as long as she's aware of it and spends plenty of time with her rabbit to get to know him/her, they make great pets!

Rabbits absolutely can bite and hard.

However I had a pet rabbit that was so lovely and they can be potty trained. I would make sure she did a lot of research to see what kind of a life a rabbit would need. Locking them in a little hutch is cruel and unusual torture. Imagine that in the wild they cover a territory as big as those dogs and cats but for some reason we keep them in tiny cages. It. Is horrible. Rabbits are best kept in the house when people are around maybe in a special room that have the wires all covered or raised and with a litter box in one corner. Putting them in a hutch for the night is ok though.

I think that's fine, but I would help them remember to clean the cage, and feed them. I remember when I was 14 and I liked having a hamster, but I didn't like the responsibility. I would have a really good talk to them about it first. I've always wanted a rabbit, but I'm scared that they may bite..
