Default Our new pet- a mouse

My son came home with a pet mouse about a month ago. I am not a fan of mice, so was freaked out when I saw it. He loves it! He then decided to buy him a playmate. They are really hard to keep alive. His first mouse is still alive, but the second died. Then he bought two more and one of them died.

Anyone have mice as pets? Are they dying off on you too?

I'm wondering why their mortality rate is lower when they are out in wild.

Mice as pets, i would scream if i saw mice in my house? Hope you coping with the mice in your house antkmom?

Why do mice die so quick, do they generally have a low life span?

Oh, the snake died a while ago, so the mice are safe.

I did scream when I saw the mouse for the first time. For weeks my kids would try to trick me into thinking that the mouse got out of the cage. They even bough a wind up toy mouse. My son came in the room carring it like his mouse was in his hand. Then he said, look mom~ and set it down. I freaked out

I got the shivers reading this , I don't like Mice at all, wild or pets. We have Guinea pigs and it took me ages to get use to them, even now I hate taking care of them, I just don't have enough hours in the day to give them the care and attention they need. I do be rushing around trying to clean and feed them.

Mice are usually pretty easy keepers. For a couple of years I actually bred mice as reptile food. My first question would be are the mice getting enough clean water and adequate food? If both answers are yes then next I would look at the bedding the mouse is in. Is it cedar or pine chips? How often does it get cleaned? Ammonia can cause respitory problems in mice and it can build up quick in a small cage.

Be careful to check the gender of the mice. It only takes about a month for mice to reproduce and they can have anywhere from 6 to 12 babies at one time. Sometimes more then that. Baby mice can start reproducing at about 2 months of age. That's a lot of mice in a short amount of time if you're not careful.

Mice are cute, but they still freak me out a bit. I think it's their tails or something

We have four white mice at home. My sister gave it to me as a birthday present. She thought I would like something different and since she made an effort, I accepted it. It looks cute but I don't really touch it. They stinks and I don't think we could bathe them. Do you think it would grow big?

My mom's ex bf used to have like 30 mice. He had a bunch of cages and they accidentally mixed the males and females together so they kept reproducting. It's crazy how quickly 10 can become 100!! Omg! I think they had a snake too.. I'm not sure. That's one thing I could NEVER do. I could never have a pet that ate other creatures. That would freak me out and I wouldn't want them to die ewww! I scared myself now. ick!

We've never had mice as pets, and I wouldn't want to - not my type of thing. I am not scared of mice and I don't find them unpleasant or anything, but I've just never thought of them as pets, I guess.

My mom is terrified of mice, if she sees one outside she jumps and screams.
