Default Indoor Cats

After my last cat was hit by a car in February 2009, I can't stand having an outdoor cat. What are your thoughts on this? Luckily, our cat we have now, Al, doesn't seem to mind and loves being around us. I mean, he will look out the window, but he's 6 years old and I think he was used to being inside when he was with his previous owners. We adopted him, and they always ask you to keep them indoor. Has this ever worked for you?
