Default Buying a house

I keep wondering if next year when I can move out of the apartment, if I should take out a loan and start buying a house. What do you think would be cheaper for me long-term? A house or apartment? I would love to have a house because it would be WONDERFUL to not have to pay any rent eventually, but at the same time, all the maintenence scares me. I don't know how to do anything lol. I like how apartments take care of things for you when something happens.

If you buy a well structured house that is fairly modern then maintainance should not be such a great expense. The biggest mistake I ever made was buying this ancient house that I am living in now. It's about 120 years old and it's just full of damp, we have had to have a new roof, total rewire and the plumbing could probably do with updating.

We had a really nice modern house in England which cost us nothing at all to maintain. We didn't have to do anything for the whole 5 years we were there.

This makes me realize that maybe not getting to keep my grandma's house happened for a reason. I mean, she lived in it for about 50 years. You can't put any toilet paper in the toilet or any food in the sinks at all. We had to wipe off every spec from every dish before putting them in the sink.

Sounds just like my house Brittany. It's awful to have to tell visitors to put their used paper in the bin provided when they go to the loo. The pipework is just not fitting for a family home.

We have also had some really heavy rain over the last few days and we have developed a leak in the skylight. I don't know what I was thinking when we bought this place. Next time it's new all the way.

I'm glad to hear it's not just me!! I was always sooo embarrassed to have to tell other to put their TP in the trash can. ICK! I got used to it though lol. But ya, it just doesn't seem right. That's why I love the apartment!

Do you have any goals set, and money saved to try to get a new place?
